What's best to do in Chicago between Xmas and New Year?

Heading to Chicago with my girlfriend right after Xmas and will be there until New Years day.

Looking for general things to do, whether it be touristy or fun things the locals get up to. Also keen on doing something on New Years Eve? (events, fireworks etc).

It's our first NYE in winter, so no idea what's on.

Cheers

First off bring some serious winter clothes because it could be brutally cold. I've attached a map with a bunch of places that you should check out. You can copy it and use it as your itinerary or just copy the points you like and create your own map. One thing I didn't put on the map is a carriage ride down Michigan Ave. try it if the weather permits.

You'll want to check out what live music will be here for sure. There is always good stuff. I would not recommend doing any bar packages as NYE is always over crowded and overpriced.

What kinds of things do you two like to do? If you told me that, I would have more idea what to tell you. My boyfriend and I always head to NYC to see our favorite band so we aren't usually here but I've been here all my life and could definitely give you some great ideas with some direction.

Don't forget to eat some chicago-style hot dogs while you're in town. Chicago dogs are a pretty specific thing. Here's the definition from wikipedia:

"A Chicago-style hot dog, known locally as a Chicago Dog, is a steamed or water-simmered, kosher-style, all-beef frankfurter on a poppy seed bun. The hot dog is topped with yellow mustard, chopped white onions, sweet pickle relish (often a dyed neon-green variety, sometimes called piccalilli), a dill pickle spear, tomato slices or wedges, pickled sport peppers, and a dash of celery salt. The complete assembly of a Chicago hot dog is said to be "dragged through the garden" because of the unique combination of condiments.

Some variants exist, adding ingredients such as cucumber slices, but the canonical recipe does not include ketchup, and there is a widely-shared, strong opinion among many Chicagoans and aficionados that ketchup is unacceptable."

And here's a map of some recommended places
