What are the best budget hotels for business travelers in downtown San Francisco?

Aside from crashing on a friend's couch, what are some nice, reasonably priced hotels for technology focused business travelers in downtown SF?

      It's tough to find budget places that you would WANT to stay....

      I'd search the usual suspects, hotwire etc. for bargains (avoid Expedia like the plague, yes I know hotwire is owned by them.....) and then try out Airbnb.com.

      If you have specific places in mind, happy to advise.
