Paul Lato and I have wineries right next to each other in Santa Maria, and so I hear all the gossip! Gary Pisoni has been a huge supporter of Paul's, and made room in the Santa Lucia Pisoni vineyard for a few tons of grapes for Paul. And with the success of Paul's Pisoni Pinot, Gary then let Paul have some Chardonnay grapes last year. I am expecting to like that wine. Chris at Bien Nacido Vineyard in Santa Maria has been farming rows of vines specifically to Paul's high standards for a number of years because of the high nineties scores Parker has awarded Paul. Zotovitch in Santa Rita Hills is another excellent and very well farmed vineyard for Paul. And Larner, wow, the fabulous Syrah vineyard in Santa Ynez Valley. Paul also gets grapes from Gold Coast vineyard in Santa Maria, which should be better know as it's older vines make beautiful Pinot. There are other vineyards, Solomon Hills in Santa Maria has excellent grapes, and Wenslau is brand new located in Santa Rita Hills near Mt Carmel vineyard. As you can see, vineyard owners want Paul to perform his magic on their grapes. Paul even gets grapes from my Hilliard Bruce Vinryard in Santa Rita Hills. I advise you to track down Paul and talk with him- I think he is one of the most interesting wine personalities in America...please don't tell him that.
