We drive 89 miles to our first stop at Reid State Park, my favorite beach in Maine. I've been going there since I was little so I spend the day on the beach, showing Abby all my favorite spots and climbing the rocks. We get a campsite and spend the night next to a couple who has been coming to this beach every summer since they've been married. The man plays harmonica so I have him teach me a few chords. We sing with them for a bit and end up falling asleep under the stars. The next morning we go for a run on the beach, pack up the campsite, and head to Portland.
-
50 miles later, we meet up with Harper, Hannah and Molly, friends who are at college and we hang out in Portland for the afternoon. That night we go to One Longfellow Square, a small music venue, to see Joy Kills Sorrow, a bluegrass folk band. After the concert we get some food and stay up late jamming and singing together.
-
We leave Harper, Hannah and Molly behind and drive 107 miles to Boston where we explore the city for the afternoon. Abby decides to stop on Boston Common and start drawing random people sprawled out in the sun. I get us lunch and bring it back to the Common for a picnic. Later, we meet up with my Uncle and he takes us out to dinner at an Irish Pub near Quincy Market. After dinner there is a fiddle jam, which we obviously stay for. We spend the night at his house in Cambridge that night.
-
The next day we drive 103 miles to get to Northampton Massachusets. Abby has a friend, Lily, who lives there and so she shows us around the city. Since they're such good friends, I go off on my own, find the most beautiful park, and wander around the Smith Campus. There are 5 major colleges in Northampton so it has a really active music and art community. I meet back up with Abby and Lily at the Iron Horse Music Hall, get dinner and see Crooked Still, another bluegrass folk band.
-
In the morning we start driving and 153 miles later we get to my family's camp on Lake George, in the Adirondacks. I go crazy because I love it there, and we relax since it's been a pretty hectic trip so far. We spend a few days wakeboarding, and swimming, and boating, making delicious food, playing music with my extended family, having wonderful conversations, singing, staying up way to late, and recording some music with the new recording equipment my Uncle has been building.

After we've been rejuvenated by the lake, Abby and I leave New York and drive 61 miles up to Burlington. We walk down Church Street, which is a street blocked off to cars, with shops and restaurants, and so we use it as an opportunity to go busking. It's noon and there are a bunch of people around so I put my fiddle case out while we sing and play some tunes. We meet a group of locals who are all friends and they stop to listen. One of them has a guitar with them so we end up spending the entire afternoon getting to know them, and playing music. We leave by 4 o'clock that afternoon and drive 150 miles to Mt. Washington, where we get a campsite and spend the night.
-
We wake up ridiculously early the next morning to get an early start up the mountain. We meet two college kids on the trail, who also drove from Burlington. They know some of the people we met the day before and so we hike with them for the rest of the day. When we get to the summit we eat our lunch, sing some songs at the top of our lungs, into the wind, and then head back down. By the time we finish hiking we're exhausted and take a nap in the car at the parking lot. We're determined to get home that night so we set an alarm, wake up, and then drive the remaining 88 miles back to Farmington.
