My name is Assia Levinski. I was born in 1928 in Kazlu-Ruda, Lithuania. My family is very close. I run and play with my school mates and we live in a beautiful, close-knit village of around 2,545 Jews where everybody cares for each other and always have each other’s backs. My father works as a lumber dealer and my grandparents live on a huge farm where I use to help harvest the produce and got to the local market to trade the goods with my grandfather. It is a small industry but fits our lifestyle and small town relationships. It is good enough for us. My parents attended secondary school in the close-by city of Marijampole which was the first Hebrew high school in Lithuania but sadly I will never get to follow in their footsteps. This is all before the Nazis came to power. My story goes all downhill from here. . .
