I love sushi and sadly was only subject to caterpillar rolls and spicy tuna rolls when I was a teeny tot. Thank gawd I came to the lovely city of angels that has so many amazing sushi restaurants

Okay. I haven't actually been here since spending $500 on dinner is just a bit out of my league but Urasawa has been on my wishlist since way back when it was Ginza Sushiko. Then Masa-san took off to NYC and his sous-chef Hiro took over and voila, Urasawa was born. I know enough people who have been fortunate enough to dine here to know that this is not just a dinner. It's a culinary experience.

      Sushi Zo

9824 National Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90064
I tried Sushi Zo right when it first opened and let me tell you, it absolutely blew me away. Here was sushi in its most refined minimalistic pure form. From the housemade soy sauce and freshly grated wasabi adorning the most amazing cuts of fish, I was hooked. Omakase was RIDICULOUS and absolutely memorable, starting with the kumamoto oyster and squid noodles with uni to the refreshing shot of yuzu. Although the quality is still amazing at Sushi Zo, I've found that the experience has become a bit cold, from the omakase-only rule to the assembly line rapid-fire successions of fish coming at you. Still, it's still a place I recommend that you check out at least once.

        Kiyokawa

265 S Robertson Blvd, Beverly Hills, CA 90211
After a great writeup by Jonathan Gold, I just had to check this place out. $78 for the Chef's Omakase is pretty awesome and the food was as beautiful as it was delicious. For the price, the variety, the service and the food, it's definitely my newest go-to place
        • Mori Sushi

I still crave Mori's homemade tofu and tuna caprese dish that I had here years ago. It was that good. Omakase is definitely the way to go here - both the cooked foods as well as the sushi and sashimi are stellar

333 s. alameda st., Los Angeles, CA
            (213) 687-0777
This clean and simple restaurant is located on the top floor in the Japanese Village Plaza. This is a classic sushi place and they have extremely fresh seafood, the wait staff is great. If you're looking for cream cheese rolls this is not the place to come, if you want great fish look no further. Very reasonably priced

Like a lot of L.A. sushi joints Shintaro is located in a little mini mall at the intersection of Franklin and Highland in Hollywood. This has been a go to for years. The selection is great as is the price and I've never left feeling empty. The waitress and sushi chefs are great fun and I will keep coming back for years to come.

I particularly don't care for grumpy sushi nazis since I believe the sushi chef should lend to your omakase experience but the sushi is good, I can't deny that.

Wow. I was blown away by the omakase here. You get some seriously quality traditional sushi here. No crazy rolls. Just pure amazing sushi

It's a little hole in the wall joint but the things coming out of this kitchen are insane. Pretty pricey but well worth it to check it out
