The Ebre River has been very important for the surrounding region, but it is also a geographical feature which has separated villages and people. In order to cross the water in stretches where there was no bridge, there have for many years, been lots of boats which transported objects, animals - and later vehicles. Although almost all the regional villages had a Pas de Barca (river crossing) until the 1960s, they disappeared due to better roads. In fact, nowadays there are only two: one in Flix and another in Miravet. The Flix raft is electric, but the one in Miravet makes use of the water currents.
Crossing the river by ferry or raft is a unique experience, which allows us to remember what sailing along the Ebre was like in times gone by.
Discover new scenery by paddling down the Ebre in a kayak. With the calm rhythm of the kayak you can observe the surroundings in absolute peace and quiet, adventure down one of the forks in the river and stop at one of the river beaches or the riverbank forest. We will show you the most beautiful sites of the wonderful river that runs across our land: its flora, fauna and its history... -
Lunch in Restaurant Miralles and visit to Els Ports Natural Park – Horta de Sant Joan
Els Ports Natural Park covers the Catalan area of the Els Ports mountains, a massif that passes the limits of Terres de l'Ebre and reaches into in the provinces of Teruel (Aragon) and Castellón (Valencian Community). These mountain ranges are very rich in fauna and flora and are in fact, a refuge for many endangered animal and vegetable species. The Spanish Ibex inhabits these lands, and the most southern area of beech trees in the Iberian Peninsula is here too. Geological formations create a unique landscape, which is typical only in Catalonia.
You will discover Els Ports Natural Park from Horta de Sant Joan.
Green Way route
This route follows the old railway track which linked La Puebla de Híjar (in Aragón) with Tortosa and crosses the regions of Terra Alta and Baix Ebre. It is well sign-posted and the ground has been adapted for cycling. It borders the western side of Els Ports massif and the banks of Canaletes River until it reaches the Ebre. The scenery is spectacular and the route includes passing through 41 tunnels, some of which are quite long (up to 750m). -

The old quarter of Tortosa is very close to the Ebre, a river which has been a natural entry from the sea to the interior of the Peninsula, since time gone by. Tortosa is a city linked to river trade and cultural exchange. Saracens, Jews and Christians inhabited the city and left a rich historical and artistic heritage which can still be visited nowadays.
We recommend you to visit La Suda Castle, Santa Maria Cathedral or the Royal Colleges. -
