The start of our journey and three nights in Rio de Janeiro. We've explored many parts of this edgy city, including Copacabana and Ipanema beaches, Sugar Loaf Mountain and Corcovado. We even had date night at the cinema, watching Harry Potter VII with Spanish subtitles! -

Now in Argentina and visiting the Argentinian side of the Iguacu Falls. We also experienced our first Argentinian steak and bottle of Malbec and it didn't disappoint. Looking forward to many more ....... -

Buenos Aires, a very cosmopolitan and lively city. As you can see, we've been sampling lots of the local food (but thankfully not the testicles on offer in one restaurant) and wine as well as visiting some of the famous sites (including Eva Peron's grave, the San Telmo markets and Congresso). -

Ten days aboard the good ship Plancius for our Christmas trip around the Antarctic Peninsula. We spent Christmas Day ashore feeling very patriotic at the British survey base Port Lockroy. The scenery and wildlife of Antarctica was quite simply breathtaking. -

In an effort to walk off our Christmas excesses we visited the Tierra del Fuego National Park to see its acres of stunning forests and coastal views of the Beagle Channel - a stunning way to close out 2010! -

The first stop on our journey north, El Calafate is a pretty little tourist town named after the famous (and very yummy) 'calafate' berry. El Calafate also sits on the shores of Lago Argentino, home to many rather shy flamingos! -

Part of the 'Los Glaciares' National Park, Perito Moreno Glacier measures 30km long, 5km wide and 60m high. It is also advancing at a rate of 2m a day which makes for some exciting carvings! -
