On Wednesday, June 1 2011, between 3:00 and 3:30 p.m., a line of severe storms developed over western Massachusetts and prompted a tornado warning at 3:28 p.m. The Tornado touched down in Westfield at 4:17 pm and passed through West Springfield, Wilbraham, Monson, Brimfield and Charlton, reaching EF3 intensity and a maximum width of 1/2 mile along it's 39 mile path. As of June 3, damage surveys indicate that 88 buildings were destroyed in West Springfield, 35 in downtown Springfield and 77 in Monson. (Wikipedia / NWS)
