10:22a and we are on schedule to depart at 11.01a as planned. Been raining here for the past 30 hours so we might start with the top up. Packing light for this trip: four small bags, one guitar and one Russian kettlebell between us.

[mj] as usual, the plan to win a little gas money by playing blackjack didn't work out as i'd planned. maybe i'll swing back by on the return trip to get my money back. even a surprise appearance by steve in the evening didn't bring me any luck.
i had the beach to myself thursday morning for a leisurely barefoot jog on the hard wet sand among millions of shells and tiny jellyfish. - Thursday, September 8, 2011

[mj] sam got unlucky by taking the wheel just before reaching baltimore and DC, where our progress slowed to about 5 mph for 20 miles thanks to flooding, wrecks, inept bridge-builders. this made for a very long day in the car and not much energy to explore once we reached harrisonburg.
sam continues to lug the 16kg kettlebell between my car's trunk and his hotel room at each stop. stay tuned. - Friday, September 9, 2011

[mj] we put another 350 miles on the odometer today, this time with easy traffic and beautiful weather. we landed on friday and learned how seriously those Volunteer fans take their mediocre team on gameday! we were lucky to get a room downtown but spent most of the evening with Craig and his family, having dinner and sampling moonshine at his house.
saturday was gameday and we pregame tailgated with Craig and Parker and some random UT fans, including one old guy named Gator who tattooed the UT logo on his leg so he'd be accepted in Knoxville. Craig took us out to Jimmy's, the dive bar for karaoke and cheap Shiner bock pitchers. none of us got on stage. - Sunday, September 11, 2011
